Hoe je herinneringen beïnvloedbaar zijn
“Weet je nog die keer …?”
“Weet je nog dat …?”
“Weet je nog hoe …?”
Herinneringen bewaar je in je lange termijn geheugen. Je herinnert je dingen zoals jij ze beleefd hebt of zoals ze je altijd verteld zijn. Ze zijn vaak opgeslagen in de vorm van (flarden van) beelden en geluiden. Maar ook daaraan gekoppelde gedachten of gevoelens kun je onthouden hebben. Sommige herinneringen weet je nog haarfijn voor de geest te halen, sommige herinner je je weer als een ander erover vertelt en andere ben je misschien helemaal vergeten.
Sommige dingen herinner je je liever niet, maar juist die lijken maar in je hoofd te blijven plakken.
Als dergelijke herinneringen je nu nog problemen bezorgen is het goed te weten dat je ze kunt veranderen. Herinneringen zijn namelijk niet statisch; ze kunnen worden beïnvloed door verschillende factoren, zoals suggesties, emoties en het verleggen van focus.
Als je terug denkt aan een situatie denk je feitelijk terug aan de laatste keer dat je aan die situatie dácht. En als je op het moment van denken lekker in je vel zit, lijkt die situatie al iets minder vervelend dan het misschien was. Door met een goed gevoel in je lijf terug te denken aan een vervelende situatie zorgt al voor een verandering van je beleving en herinnering.
Ook door de focus te verleggen in het beeld van die situatie kun je je herinnering veranderen. Meestal wordt je aandacht getrokken naar één focuspunt in het beeld dat je opgeslagen hebt, maar wat laat je dan allemaal weg? Wat was daar nog meer te zien of te horen? Door zaken toe te voegen aan het beeld, beïnvloed je het totale plaatje en daarmee je gevoel. Probeer maar eens. Zoom eens uit en kijk wat daar nog meer is. Hoe is dat?
Dit soort ‘trucjes’ zijn een vast onderdeel van mijn taak als hypnotherapeut om jou te helpen vervelende herinneringen die je nu nog dwars zitten te neutraliseren of zelfs positief te veranderen. En je zult merken: dan voel je je direct een stuk beter!
