“Weet jij nu wat je moet doen?”
Dit vroeg een moeder aan haar dochter toen ze haar op kwam halen na de sessie. Het meisje had gewerkt aan haar prikangst ter voorbereiding op een geplande 9 jarigen-vaccinatie. Het meisje keek haar moeder niet begrijpend aan. Ze was nog in verwondering van de sessie van zojuist. Ze kon het oude gevoel niet meer oproepen en had bovendien rustig naar filmpjes gekeken van kinderen die gevaccineerd werden. Wist ze wat ze nu moest doen? Eh…
Ik vertelde moeder dat haar dochter alles wat ze moest doen al gedaan had. Ze had met mij de oude angst getransformeerd en kon nu met rust en vertrouwen de vaccinatie tegemoet zien. Ze hoeft niks anders te ‘doen’.
Deze onwennigheid zie ik vaak na een sessie. Kan angst echt zomaar weg zijn?
En voor een ouder is het nóg onwenniger, omdat zij het zelf niet voelen of meemaken.
Ik drukte moeder op het hart het oude angst thema terzijde te schuiven, geen aandacht te geven aan twijfel en te vertrouwen op het feit dat het al veranderd is.
Het gaat bij hypnotherapie niet om het toepassen van trucjes om anders te reageren. Je kind hoeft niet tot 10 te leren tellen om zijn geduld te bewaren of andere gedachten te oefenen. De onderliggende trigger is veranderd en daarmee is de weg vrij voor nieuwe reacties en nieuw gedrag.
De volgende dag kreeg ik het bericht van een trotse dochter én moeder dat de vaccinatie rustig verlopen was en ze nu lekker aan de thee zaten.
