“Leg een tegel neer voor jezelf en eentje voor je kind.” Met deze opdracht begin ik doorgaans een individuele opstelling met (meestal) de moeder.

Opvallend vaak volgt er dan een opstelling die vergelijkbaar is met deze afbeelding. Moeder en kind recht tegenover en dichtbij elkaar, waarbij het kind naar de moeder gedraaid staat (de inkeping geeft de kijkrichting aan).

Ook deze moeder legde zonder lang na te denken de tegels op deze manier neer. Toen ik haar vroeg op haar eigen plek te gaan staan, voelde ze het meteen: “ik hou super veel van haar, maar ze staat wel heel erg voor mijn neus”. Voorzichtig schuift ze haar eigen tegel een stukje naar achteren. Dit geeft direct meer lucht.

Als ik haar vervolgens vraag op de tegel van haar kind te gaan staan, valt ze daar stil. Haar schouders hangen en als ik vraag wat er gebeurt, zegt ze: “ik ben bang en verdrietig”. Ook wil ze liever dichter naar mama toe. Haar lichaam leunt voorzichtig voorover.

Deze moeder zoekt hulp, omdat haar kind doorlopend haar aandacht vraagt. Zodra moeder uit het zicht is, begint het kind te roepen om mama. Er is paniek als moeder weg moet voor een afspraak. Alleen gaan slapen wil maar niet lukken. Moeder is radeloos.

In de opstelling leg ik achter de moeder een tegel voor haar eigen moeder (de oma van het kind) neer. Moeder voelt daarop de neiging zich naar haar moeder te draaien. Haar eigen moeder bleek nauwelijks beschikbaar te zijn geweest omdat zij op haar beurt naar háár moeder gedraaid stond die ziekelijk was.

Door dit gegeven te zien en erkennen én vervolgens te laten bij degene die dit mag dragen (omdat het haar last / lot is), wordt de stroom naar volgende generaties doorbroken.
Als gedrag van kinderen onverklaarbaar is, is het zinvol te kijken wat of wie in het familiesysteem zij spiegelen. Bij wie of welke situatie past dit gedrag wél?

Het overnemen van ervaringen of impulsen van eerdere generaties is een basis-dynamiek binnen het familiesysteem. “Ik doe het voor jou.” Dit gebeurt onbewust en uit loyaliteit naar het systeem.Kinderen of kleinkinderen voelen wat door (groot)ouders niet gevoeld is of gevoeld kon worden. Middels een individuele opstellen kan een ouder dit doorbreken voor zichzelf en het kind.

Het resultaat? Zowel moeder als kind die ontspannen in hun eigen kracht gaan staan, zonder “teruggehouden” te worden door emoties die niet bij hen horen.

In dit geval merkte moeder na een paar dagen hoe ze zelf met meer vertrouwen de dag begon en met andere ogen naar haar dochter kon kijken. Ze zag hoe haar dochter rustiger werd en steeds langer zelf ging spelen. Als ze mama nodig had, zocht ze haar op en kon ze vertellen wat er was. Het slapen gaan was een gezellig moment van samen kletsen en knuffelen geworden, waarna het kind zelf in slaap viel. Ook moeder kwam hierdoor aan haar rust toe.
